I knew it would take time to get my body back.. but I was not expecting it to be like this…
I found myself on the brink of tears in the Old Navy fitting room. It’s been 4.5 months and I still can’t fit into my jeans comfortably! So.. I thought it’d be a good idea to buy some new clothes today… I mean I can’t keep wearing leggings everyday..right?!? After wandering around for a bit, I carefully selected a few items to try on and that I THOUGHT would be FOOL-proof: a cute gray dress that cinched in at the waist, a couple of sweaters and a glittery t-shirt. Well, they ALL looked horrible!!!! And I could feel the tears welling up as I told myself, “Morgan get it together, you cannot start crying…. not here, not now”. Why is my body so weird now? Why is it so hard to go clothes shopping in the 4th trimester?
Well, I managed to hold back the tears and after picking up pieces of my self-esteem off the gray concrete fitting room floor, hit the racks once more. Only this time, I was determined to find items that were versatile, cute, and accommodating of my mama body. So, I began picking up styles that I would’ve never tried before. And you know what…they actually looked good on me!
“Constantly feeling frumpy was causing me to
dread getting dressed”
I’m not a fashionista but I do enjoy looking well put-together and since having Breezy it has been hard to find time to shower and do laundry let alone pick out a cute outfit. Squeezing into my jeans was OK at first, I kept telling myself that I would quickly loose the baby weight. And I have lost the baby weight..but my BODY SHAPE has changed drastically. My curves are a little more full than before and some clothes just don’t fit me in the same places.
Constantly feeling frumpy was causing me to dread getting dressed especially on the weekends when I don’t have to wear scrubs. I have been wearing the same few articles of clothing since fall began and all of them include a stretchy waistband and spandex. My closet is full of clothes that no longer fit and styles that are unflattering. So, I finally convinced myself to spend money on new clothes and I am so happy that I did!
Some of us snap back and others hang on to those extra pounds
If you are struggling to find outfits that look good try exploring different styles, textures, and patterns. For example: I only wear skinny jeans BUT, I bought a pair of boot-cut jeans that look fabulous! Also, don’t be afraid to keep rocking maternity clothes, I wear a pair of maternity leggings for the tummy support which helps me look nice and slim.
Honestly, I must say that I am super impressed by the selection of clothes that Old Navy has to offer! They have so many cute pairs of jeans and so many different cuts, styles, and lengths! I’m on the taller side and love that I can walk into the store and find ‘longs’ on the racks because most stores have to order them! You cannot beat their prices either! They have awesome sales, great coupons and Old Navy Cash which helps you save even more money.
My hope is that you find success while shopping and that if you find yourself crying in the fitting room at the mall… LET IT OUT! KNOW that you are beautiful! Go easy on yourself and remember….it took nine months to grow that baby so it WILL take time to feel like yourself again.
