Desert Essence Anti-Breakage Shampoo and Conditioner Review

I received this product for free from Moms Meet (momsmeet.com) to use and post my honest opinions. Compensation for this post was provided and this page may contain affiliate links.

It is a fact of life… hair care products make bold claims to “smooth, detangle, revitalize, repair and restore.” After years of chlorine, sun and salty ocean spray my hair has seen it’s fair shares of shampoos and conditioners, both good and bad. In efforts to protect my hair, I compiled a simple list of what I expect from shampoos and conditioners. My shampoo needs to cleanse my hair and scalp without stripping my natural oils. And the conditioner needs to rinse out easily and detangle my hair so that I can comb and style after rinsing. This is not a long list of demands, nor is it unreasonable but, I’m often left wanting after trying a new hair care product. But today’s story has a happy ending because to my surprise, Desert Essence Anti-Breakage Shampoo and Conditioner met my expectations for how hair care products should perform.

Before trying Desert Essence Anti-Breakage Shampoo and Conditioner  we had a separate bottle of shampoo and conditioner for my husband, son and myself. If my daughter had enough hair to wash should would probably have her own bottles as well. In our quest for clean hair, I try to make sure our products are also eco-friendly and more importantly safe for our bodies. Meaning that in the event my child(ren) was to accidentally ingest their shampoo or conditioner I shouldn’t be speed dialing Poison Control. (this shampoo and conditioner is free of yucky chemicals). Making a healthful choice for my family without even trying definitely means that these hair care products earn a place in our shower. I especially appreciate the fact that there are no artificial dyes or fragrances because our Sonny has Ezcema and we try our best to avoid skin and beauty products that may further irritate his skin.

Wash Day

My hair gets washed on average, once every 2 weeks (don’t go into shock, Black girls can typically go a span of several days before needing to wash our hair). If I decide to twist my hair after washing and I am looking at a process that clocks at just under 3 hours. Now that I’ve set the scene hopefully you understand the importance of using the “right” shampoo and conditioner, there is very little room for failure in this department. After a 2 weeks of dust and sweat from the softball field and spray park chlorine I put Desert Essence Anti-Breakage Shampoo and Conditioner to the test. The outcome was exceptional. I knew I liked the shampoo the moment the scent wafted through the shower. The scent is calming, such a wonderful blend of oils: Jojoba, Coconut, Sage and Ginger were expertly combine in this shampoo. After rinsing my scalp tingles, this is such an invigorating wash. The conditioner is less aromatic but easy to work from my roots to the end of the hair shaft due to its creamy consistency. Upon rinsing the conditioner from my hair, I was able to detangle and style as usual.

PROS

cons

  • I needed more than the recommended amount of shampoo to clean my hair. *disclaimer: I ALWAYS need to use more than the recommended amount to clean my hair.

I’ve used too many shampoos and conditioner over the years to count. Desert Essence Anti-Breakage Shampoo and Conditioner outperformed my expectations. Since receiving the product I’ve used it three times with consistent results. My hair thanks me for a break (no pun intended) for my normal routine, to try these products.
