Step-by-Step D.I.Y. Colored Pasta

Hey there mama! I am going to make this super simple and quick. Colored pasta and rice is ALL over the internet! Instagram and Pinterest are loaded with rainbows of children gleefully playing in perfectly dyed carbohydrates. Well I tried it!! I thought colored pasta would be a great addition to our sensory bin! And it totally was!

Now mama, let me first preface this by saying, if you do not want a ton of noodles hanging around your house think twice ! You’ve been warned…..it’s really not that bad I have been able to quickly clean up the pasta. I think the key is to keeping this activity restricted to one area of the house.

If you are thinking “I don’t feel like running out to the store to attempt another DIY project that my toddler may or may not like” . Give this activity a shot! You probably have all of the items needed already!

WHAT YOU NEED:

1 Cup Pasta

1 tsp white vinegar

about 20 drops of food coloring

Ziploc bag

wax paper

cookie sheet

STEP 1

Mix the vinegar and food coloring in a plastic bag until desired color is achieved. This usually took about 15-20 drops of food coloring for bold color less if you are wanting more of a pastel color.

STEP 2

seal the bag and shake vigorously until all of the pasta is coated.

STEP 3

Let sit for 10 min, shake again, and pour onto wax paper, cookie sheets, or any covered drying surface.

STEP 4

Allow to air dry for 24 hrs.

NOTE: DO NOT SKIP STEP #1. I TRIED TO ADD THE DYE AND VINEGAR AFTER THE PASTA AND I ENDED UP WITH STREAKY PASTA.

This is super easy and quick, I feel it works best with small batches so it can be time consuming but I was able to make about 8 cups of dyed pasta in less than an hour! Happy DIYing mama!
