Summer Survival Guide: Working Mom Edition

Summer is always a special time of year in the Midwest, the bleak Winter of snow and ice has passed and the rainfall of Spring has dried up. Summer in Kansas City means BBQ, pool time, and lots and lots of outdoor fun! This summer we plan on having tons of fun taking mini-road trips, playing softball on the weekends with our church, and attending a few cook-outs and weddings! Although the weather often heats up for mid 90s to low 100 degrees Fahrenheit here in Kansas City, I still enjoy Summer more than any other season! As a working mama, I am always trying to find creative ways to spend time with my son! Working in the evenings has allowed me to spend more time with my son during the day. Although, I spend less time at home with my husband this schedule is working out for us as we have a better family-work balance.

Courtney and I thought it would be fun to share a few ideas of how moms can OWN THE SUMMER! We don’t want you to feel intimidated by the glaring eyes of your children and the all too common question of “What are we doing today?” So we created two guides to help a mama out!

If you are like “yeah I have no clue what I’m going to do with my toddler/preschooler ALL summer long” then this post is for you! I’ve been there mama….I am there mama! It’s a constant struggle of mine to find energy to entertain my son all day, work in the evenings, and then repeat. Some days i just want to lay in the bed all day long. But we only get 18 Summers with our little monsters, so let’s get out there and get busy!!!!

Then followed that beautiful season summer, filled was the air with a dreamy and magical light; And the landscape lay as if new created in all the freshness of childhood

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

For a working mom the beginning of summer break may not be all that exciting. Why? Because now on top of everything else you are trying to find ways to entertain your kids all day long! Well, if you are a mama of young kiddos I’ve got a few ideas about how you can entertain your kids this summer!

Sometimes as a working mama I feel like I miss out on all of the fun things my SAHM friends get to do with their kids. But, there is still plenty of time when I’m off to do fun things with my busy toddler boy! Instead of focusing on the time you have to spend working, focus on all of your free time! Take advantage of the long days we have coming our way and get creative with your schedule!

All of the ideas I will be sharing are budget friendly, Dave Ramsey would be proud! I think it is important to share practical and cost-effective ways to have fun! I know that for many families including mine having kids means tighter pockets. I would hate to suggest ideas that I myself could never even afford!
